Ash Wednesday — Repent

Psalm 51:1-4, 10-12
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love;
  in your great compassion blot out my offenses.
Wash me through and through from my wickedness,
  and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my offenses,
  and my sin is ever before me.
Against you only have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight;
  so you are justified when you speak and right in your judgment.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
  and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
  and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
  and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

Prayer:
My Father in heaven, what a joy it is to be here during this Lenten season. Assured of your great love for me, your salvation has come to me and all the world. Your grace love, and mercy are mine as you have washed me and made me your own, a family member of your choosing.
In this world I fall short as a member of your family, yet you in your mercy see me as you look through the cross of Jesus. There is continued forgiveness at your table. Create in me a pure heart, empowered to live this good Lenten news to those I encounter, that my joy would be theirs.
Guide me by the Spirit to share how wonderful it is to be a child of God. Let me feel your presence every hour until we meet face to face.
Amen. Come Lord Jesus.
